Walking my talk! Allan Jones, our PHEW consultant in HET has been researching one of the reasons why ADHD is on the increase. It is because of the lack of exercise. Exercise creates endorphins (little messages of ‘feel good’ in our brain) that tell the rest of the body to go out and feel WOW! Unfortunately due to all the TV programmes, computer games, car journeys etc that we all take for granted in our life now – we are not getting enough exercise, put this in line with the poor diet that we eat due to the over processing and denaturing of nutritional value in food you can see where we are at! Allan addresses all of this in the PHEW stepping stone with ways of helping parents and kids overcome these trends in a family fun filled way. One of the things he is also trying to do, as an Ex Olympic coach, and now a family PHEW coach is to make sure that the 2012 Olympics leave a positive legacy of good healthy lifestyle behind. This is something that no other Olympics has ever done! This is his campaign that you can read more about in his articles on the site and also his slot on the HET radio show. Anyway apparently he is trying to generate 2012 X 1 mile walks around the world before the 2012 Olympics – He’s going for gold!!! So he has asked me to kick off…(yes even I do that thing every so often!) and walk my talk or was it talk my walk??? Anyway… My special walk every single day is over Penn common which is a 5 minute walk from where I live – I usually go for an hour walk every day sometimes longer with Ruby, (see SNOW Friends here folks!) When I was a child, I lived the other side of town and for a treat Mom used to make us a picnic and we would go sit on Penn common and share it with the ducks and goats. I always wanted to live near there and many years later, I find myself doing exactly that. Ruby and I meet the minimum government guidelines for activity together every day and it is a place where I can release the worries and tensions and pressures, be in nature, be creative and feel happy. I enjoy nature the flowers and trees and often take pictures here as an artist photographer, which I have included here for you. We walk past an old 12th century church called St Bart’s, with lots of history and my grandparents are buried here. Sometimes we just walk around the open field which leads off the church village green. We may just sit together talking to the horses or we may wander further over the Penn golf course and through the Bluebell woods. Hope to see you there – wave at me if you see me! Here is the google map of my walk from my postcode WV4 5PH in the UK Here are some of the pictures, that I took on one of the many daily walks.
