fishing
Posted On 10/11/2010 06:07:21 by Scott

I was on Andy’s lake in Hereford on Sunday. Whilst I was there I saw a group of Polish people also fishing. I saw them putting the fish that they caught underneath the car. They were still alive but they were going to die. You are supposed to put the fish back into the water alive but these people were going to take them back to eat.

They had caught carp which were an average size.  I understand it is a Polish tradition to eat carp whereas English people wouldn’t.

This is really cruel as the fish are not meant to be out of the water for too long.  A few people behaving like this can give fishing a bad reputation.

I decided to do something about it!

The person I was with noticed that some other people on the other side of the lake had a phone and so we asked them to phone up the  farmer who owns the lake and tell him what was going on.

In only about 2 minutes the farmer came along and told them to get off his land and leave. They then left and hopefully the fish went back into the lake.

That was a very kind thing to do Scott.  It showed respect for the fish and the farmer, and other people who enjoy fishing and don't want to be get a bad reputation from other people's bad habits.
