In putting together an alternative to ADHD behaviours, the first step has to be to identify and agree which behaviours are desirable and which are not. ADHD type behaviours do vary from individual to individual but typically include: an inability to compete the task, inattentiveness, impulsivity, fidgeting and restlessness but may also include inability to relate to consequences and/ or violent or aggressive behaviour, dominating behaviours and failure to complyDuring the HET Holistic Educational Therapy process, it is always the first step to consult with parents, teachers and anyone else who has any involvement with the child and to agree what those behaviours are. If we can’t define them then we cannot measure them – and also how will we know if the situation improves and what it is necessary to do, to prevent the situation from occurring in the first place.
Everyone will have a different perspective on these behaviours and that is usually down to the fact that children will be very different at home, to how they are in the classroom and that is different again to how they are in the playground. So getting rounded points of view is very valuable at this point. Often, the behaviours can be very different with different parents or members of the family.
For this purpose, I developed the HET consultation questionnaires with a leading child psychologist.

It was this questionnaire that proved so powerful in measuring the effectiveness of the HET programme and why we undertake the same process again further down the road or at the end of the programme. This way we can measure the improvement we are making along the way.
From all of this information, we are then able to agree goals and targets. In other words we know what it is we want to achieve – we have put the milestones in place. Now all we have to do is stop and check the temperature every so often as the situations cool down.
Once we have the list of about 3 or 4 goals which we call ‘SMART’, we look at putting a framework of rewards and incentives in place for the desirable behaviours and consequences for the undesirable behavioural responses. All this is done through the HET rewards chart system. This is unique to HET and integrates all the other different aspects of the programme in order to encourage life style improvement choices with your child, and this approach shouldn’t be confused with other systems.
This is the foundation for alternative ADHD approaches, which includes, emotional issues with the Bach Flower remedies, core issues, negative patterns, dynamics. Diet and nutrition, physical fitness , relaxation methods and cellular support.
This HET programme also involves an alternative ADHD learning strategy. The sequence of the HET programme is all about the way we learn through life experience and like peeling back the onion layers takes us back to who we were before the traumas and experiences blocked the way forward. So what we do is run an alternative style of learning alongside which is an eco therapy programme.
As the child or adult heals the blockages at different levels within themselves, through the HET programme they work with the natural environment through fun filled family projects
The whole point to this is to create a more positive way for your child to reach their potential and relieve the stress that behavioural problems have on your family life.
Every stepping stone in the programme has an evaluation strategy in order to assess how effective this part of the programme has been for your child. From this it is possible to profile what works well and put together a tool box for life.
Consistently HET achieves over an 80% success rate. I t is possible to see a reduction in negative behaviours very earl in the programme and has brought relief as an ADHD alternative for over 10 years, explaining why HET is the phenomenal success that wins commendations and international awards.
