My son is 13 w/ADHD. We tried meds for 6 months when he was around 8 or 9. After that we tried a natural/organic diet that restricts pre-processed foods, dyes, etc. Raw sugar was used rather than refined and yes, everything was cooked in coconut oil. We saw a huge difference in his behavior. He still has bad days but it seems to mellow him out. He has not been on meds since. However, I have known some children that this does not work for. It took around 6-8 weeks for us to notice a difference. I hope this helps.

hi lesley and Johanne,

I hadn't heard of cooking  with cooconut oil either! As an aromatherapist i have used it in a base oil preparation and I heard that the palmate acid in it was excellent for aging skin.

So did a bit of research on it and came up with some interesting info...

Check this out:

have started a discussion group on facebook - which I want to carry out on here so we can get some real good ideas happening for alternatives.

Johanne has had problems with her daughters school giving her ;rewards' sweeties to which she has a hypersensitive reaction:

#I am trying to get some alternative suggestions on here ot helpout  - I have suggested carob as an alterntive to chocolate  which has theophylline in it and that can react with certain medications (especially asthma)

Johanne has posted this suggestion for alternative lollies:

"They are from a health food shop that only contain fruit juice and geletine and are on paper sticks with plastic covers that don't have any of the (I can't remember the word but the bad things that are in most plastics) they are more expencive than normal lollies but its better than spending the evening trying stop my daughter from bouncing off the walls for a few hours and then the tantrums when she comes down from the high"
