yeah this is good but there are also the forums which work like the discussion boards on Facebook - you can post the successes with your children on your page and if you click on the how to use this site tag - Steve the techie has produced some short videos on how to use the different features - so we can make it truly interactive

So please make the most of your page and involve your children in this too and let us know anything else that you would like to see on here.

Were you ever able to get to the bottom of your son's anger issues?

Have a go at doing the parents one yourself and then print off another copy and have a go at filling it in with the kids - making the questions easy for them if needs be - to get their handle on it and also a great tactic to get their ownership in the programme - which is very empowering and helps them make better choices around rewards and consequences.

Also helpful if you have another family member filling it out with you too - this ensures coperation between family members in agreeing and sticking to the boundaries. For example have found this a useful strategy for in -laws and dietary boundaries etc

I think with some suport from my sons teacher that Katie's teacher is going to do the questionaire. My son has some behavoural problems but not as extreame as Katie's, he has an IEP in place which is due for review on Monday which is when I am going to do the questionaire with his teacher. He has trouble managing his 'moods' (anger) he also has some self esteme problems which he struggles with, last year he did something called time to talk which was very good and he got alot out of.

I want to do the programme with Jack as well as Katie as it seems a waste of effort if I do the programme with Katie and it might help Jack as well.

That is great well done! this is a huge hurdle to get over with the teacher - often they just feel out of their depth - if you think about it - they are the professional on the line and thier job is to best support your child and - they don't know how to do that? no one knows your child as well as you do - and you are more of an expert than she is - she is going to be a bit defensive.

The questionnaire is a great place to build that bridge - it looks at all kinds of things that your child will do at school that you don't know about (they are always 2 totally different people at home to school - lol!) and it's a great place for you to educate the teacher in a gentle way as to the nature of this condition and to the individuality of it for each child - the info you have to give her will be soooo helpful!

Also from your daughter's point of view once you have set some SMART targets (with teacher) there is consistency in expectation of behaviours between home and school and a notebook can go back and forward with the reward charts in which we use when we've defined the desirable / undesirable behaviours and targets- then we get your daughter in on it all - only focusing on the postive - It is such a great structure to then start the programme and measure the progress ..

I know this was a tricky start for you both but what great things can come out of it, in terms of support for her. I am so excited for you both!!!

Now you mention your son - is there a behavioural issue there?

Because she didn't know any better and needed you and your beautiful child to show her the way - well done you guys!!!

Are you now able to do the questionnaire with her?

14/10/2009 17:14:35 The great thing that can come out of all this is that you educate this person and then they will ahve so much more understanding with other cilldren who find themsleves in her class. What a wondeful opprotunity for you to take out understanding into this condition which your beautiful daughter has taught you!
